HOME FROM HOME
Famously the great Nelson Mandela was often quoted as saying, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world”. HfH believes strongly in this statement and has been committed to striving for improved educational levels for the children in our care. Our extensive Education Programme involves three key areas of focus. Firstly, we run an Early Childhood Development Centre, called the Lizo Nobanda ECD in Khayelitsha. This centre provides high quality pre-school education to 40 children and ensures that they are ready for ‘big school’ the following year.
Secondly, our Basic Education Programme includes establishing each child in a school or appropriate education facility, providing uniforms and stationery, and transporting them to and from school.
Thirdly, is our crucial Educational Support Programme. Most children require some form of additional education support during their schooling, but so much more children like ours who come from disadvantage. HfH employs a full time education specialist who coordinates this programme involving an extensive Tutoring programme, an English Reading programme and an extramural/activities programme, provided to the children across all of our homes.
